Hynix Delays Memory Chip Production at China Plant until July
March 24, 2006
Korean Hynix has announced that it will put off memory chip production at its joint venture with STMicroelectronics in Jiangsu, China until July.  Production was originally scheduled to start in April. According to Hynix, this delay, which is said to ease the oversupply of memory chips, is due to construction which has fallen behind schedule. The plant will produce DRAM chips for PCs with an 8-inch line initially and move on to NAND flash chips using a 12-inch line in late 2006 or early 2007.
